ArchiLAB was established by consultant architect Hany M. Ibrahim in 1989. Throughout the three decades of its existence, Archilab has been dedicated to affirming a new philosophy in the art of design and has experimented in its different fields, delivering over five hundred prestigious projects worldwide, in addition, to managing construction projects on a global scale. All of which vary in categories, function and scale. ArchiLAB projects have been numerously published and sighted by specialized design periodicals and magazines. The diversity of our projects earned recognition and awards, scattered throughout the Middle East and beyond.

One of the unique Competitions was the Urban Confluence San Jose design competition carried out by the San Jose Light Tower Corporation to build an artistically inspired iconic landmark.

The Urban Confluence Silicon Valley organization envisions an impressive symbolic structure appropriate for this unique region that is recognized as the worldwide centre of innovation. This bold destination landmark will provide a major enhancement to downtown San Jose, and be an important catalyst for Silicon Valley culture and long-term regional economic development. The internationally respected icon will offer a must-see place of hope, healing, and human connection – creating a compelling world-class experience for tourists and the local community. The Community Competition Panel (CCP), comprised of 34 local community leaders including artists, architects, environmentalists, and business leaders, convened for two days of deliberation sessions. They diligently reviewed and evaluated all 963 qualified submissions as a group and concluded their work by recommending 47 submissions to the Jury for consideration. The knot by ArchiLAB was amongst the 47 shortlisted submissions by the CCP.

The knot is a unique landmark that combines art and architecture, science and nature, and the river confluence in an original design concept. It is an exploration of natural harmony and collaboration between different elements. Beginning with the team behind the sculptural icon.

The design of the knot was inspired by the flow of the rivers that converge at the site, creating an intricate pattern. As we explore this beautiful site,

 a unique sculptural design lying on the ground embraces it like a picture frame for one of nature’s magnificent artworks. This sculpture gently rises from the ground in an elegant movement of intricate curves and lines, creating an awe-inspiring visual experience. The iconic landmark has become a powerful symbol of collaboration and innovation, showcasing the perfect fusion between art and architecture, science and nature.
