The reopening of Museum comes within the comprehensive plan aimed at developing artistic and national museums all over Egypt.
The Museum is the largest art museum in Egypt with a total area: 1400 m2 surrounded by a garden: 2,400 m2 overlooking the Nile. It was built in1915 in the French style. The museum was opened at the first time to visitors in 1962.

Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum is considered one of the most important museums in Egypt and the Arab region, as it includes a huge collection of masterpieces of international art, but the collection of works by nineteenth century artists in Europe remains the most important and famous because it includes 876 works of the most prominent artists of the influential school, and some works of the artists of the Romanesque school and the classical school by world renowned artists such as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Gaugin, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Manet, Berthe Morisot, Auguste Rodin, Edgar Degas, Eugène Delacroix, Peter Paul Rubens, and Franz XaverWinterhalter, and others.

The scope of this project was increasing the efficiency of the building and the ability to provide all the required to maintain theses contents.
These needs faced many challenges which needed higher levels of coordination between the owner, consultant and the contractor to solve the problem of adding many new systems of air condition, firefighting, theft alarm, lighting and smart CCTV systems.
For example, to perform the air condition steel ducts we used the old paths of the old heating pipes and ventilation hidden in the walls to reach the outlets vents without any changes to the architecture design of the house.

Also, for the firefighting system the water mist system was performed because of the small size and the material of pipes and sprinklers.
for all security systems, low voltage systems and power supplies there were high level of cooperating between civil, architect and electromechanical departments to make all of these systems operated with the minimum damages to the building decorative elements.

Collapses and fires were the main hazards faced the teamwork in such building with load-bearing wall system and contains wooden floors and windows, so that many procedures were taken to prevent any high vibrations, impacts and any source of fires also ensure the construction safety for the building by monitoring any movements during adding the new systems and new weights inside the museum.
